DIY reef hook

Getting ready for my upcoming dive trip to Maldives. Being the nervous being I am, I have my worries about the trip.

Will I get used to living on-board 24/7 for 9 days? Will I have enough stamina to keep up with the seasoned divers? In case of emergencies, do I have the necessary survival instincts to handle it (ok, think the answer to this is a no, but my plan is to keep close to someone who does…)

Equipment is another thing. I’ve gotten a new regulator, a new BCD, Mantis fins (so pretty!), poker, a little bell (don’t ask me… I could have just used the poker as a tank banger but I couldnt’ resist).

Gull Mantis fins. Love them!

Pink Gull Mantis fins. Love them!

Sad to say I love my fins because they’re pink. I have yet to try them in the water so have no idea how they would fare. *fingers crossed*

Yeah, the problem I know have is that I’ve got pink fins, have changed the plate on my regulator to pink, and I’ve got a freaking blue wetsuit! Yeah, if they had pink I would have bought pink, but they didn’t, and the wetsuit was the first big-ticket item I bought (I had gloves and booties). Everything else came later, and how… how could I resist the pink??

And of course I’ve got my gloves and booties from the last couple of dives.

What I need is a dive computer, which I’m going to borrow this time, and a reef hook.

Cheapo as this may sound, I am perfectly willing to spend $2k+ on a BCD and a reg, but refuse to spend S$60 on a reef hook in a dive shop!

So the next best thing? DIY.

I went to the local tackle shop and got a hook for fishing sharks. Size 14/0.

The uncle at the shop was really very helpful!

Me: “Do you sell caribiniers?”

Him: “What’s that?”

But subsequently went and found me a suitable hook for hooking onto the BCD.

He helped me to assemble the parts, choosing the best rope to use (softer ones so it doesn’t cut you) and also tied the ends with a boyscout knot that “…will never come loose! The harder you pull, the tighter it becomes!”

Feeling really happy about my purchase, which cost me a grand total of S$9, Kel brought me to our next stop.

Next, down to the local bike shop to grind down the sharp edges.

I’m really pleased at how it turned out! Thanks to Kel, who, although not really having a clue, knew exactly the right places to bring me to.

Finally…

I meant to place a strip of lace before sticking on the pearls and diamantes, but somehow got carried away and forgot until I finished the project. Absolutely neck-breaking effort.

Truth

How do we know what is the truth of a situation? Is it what is playing out right before our eyes? If we have psychic powers and can see what is behind the scenes, will we still believe what we see our eyes? What will we doubt? Our eyes, or our psychic power?

It’s been a while

I haven’t been blogging. Not sure why. I think it’s because I was really bogged down physically and emotionally by work matter for the last couple of months.

But now, I’m starting to get the itch to write again.

Reading my old posts also give me the incentive to bling up my nails again. I have been keeping them really short lately as I really couldn’t be bothered. But let’s bring out the swarovski crystals… it’s time to bring beauty into the world again!

I’m writing a post simply because I’m so sick of seeing the pink Bayswater. Nope, I didn’t get it in the end.

I haven’t been writing because there hasn’t been much to report. My energies are mainly focused on work right now. I shall only blog when I have something that is actually of interest to blog about. Recently my life mainly consists of working and going home to veg out in front of the tv watching cheesy taiwanese drama serials. What’s there to write about?

My nails are a mess… would love to bling them up again… let’s see.

Mulberry Bayswater in Ostrich

I already have a Bayswater, but it’s in the usual leather in a dark red.

Then, I saw this!

Fuchsia ostrich leather large Bayswater bag with two handles. Mulberry bag has silver hardware, a brown lining, hidden buckles at the side to expand the bag, a zipped and an open pouch on the inside and a padlock tag attached.

At £1,885, it’s worth some consideration.

Mid-Autumn Festival in Singapore

This Mid-Autumn festival I spent listening to free outdoor concerts by the Singapore Philharmonic Winds and Singapore Symphonic Orchestra. What’s Mid-Autumn without the lanterns?

I still maintain paper lanterns are more fun and those new gadget-y ones that are battery operated and chimes cheesy tunes.

Bishan park… seems like the rain did not dampen many people’s spirits.

Freebie: Bike Fest mobile cleaner

Guess what Kel gave me?

Haha, NOT the mobile phone. But the niffy mobile cleaner (the little round thing I have attached to the phone). The other side of it is in a nice, soft, spongy material, and is used to clean fingerprints/grease/dust/etc off your mobile. Cute huh?!

And … yeah… I know I’ve got a LV wallpaper. Stop laughing at me… wanna see my Chanel one?

Restaurant review: Dome ~ Dempsey Hill

I love the ambience of this Dome outlet.

I’ve been here twice. The first time, I had the lamb from the chef’s menu only available at this Dempsey outlet. And it was good!

The second, I had this…

Onion Soup

Gourmet Pie

I had the pie wi th the chicken and barley filling, while my friend had the beef stroganoff. Mine was too salty, and for him, the beef was too tough! So it was slightly disappointing.

But, Dome does serve up a nice cuppa.
